NoTrail VPN on iPhone
NoTrail VPN is built for iPhone first. This guide covers how it works from install to your first connection, plus what to try if a network gets in the way. The iOS app is on its way to the App Store, and this page is updated when it goes live.
How it works in short
You install the app, pick a plan inside it, and tap a country to connect. There is no account to create. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID, and the app gives you a backup login code so you can use your plan on another device.
Set up in four steps
- Install the app from the App Store when it is available.
- Choose a plan. Pick a 15-day pass, a 30-day pass, or the monthly subscription. You pay with your Apple ID through the usual App Store purchase screen.
- Allow the VPN configuration. The first time you connect, iOS asks permission to add a VPN configuration. This is a normal step for every VPN app, and it needs your approval each time you install.
- Pick a country and connect. Choose a location from the list and tap it. When the VPN is on, iOS shows a VPN indicator in the status bar.
Shadow Mode for restrictive networks
Some Wi-Fi networks, such as schools, offices, hotels and certain countries, block the standard VPN protocol. NoTrail VPN includes Shadow Mode, which sends your traffic in a way that looks like ordinary encrypted web traffic. If the normal connection fails on a network, try Shadow Mode. It can get through where the normal mode can’t, but no VPN can promise to work on every network.
If it won’t connect
- Try another network. If it works on mobile data but not on a particular Wi-Fi, that network is probably blocking VPN traffic. Try Shadow Mode.
- Try another location. Pick a different country in case one server is busy.
- Toggle the connection. Disconnect, wait a few seconds, and connect again.
- Check your plan. A pass ends after its set number of days, and a monthly subscription stays active while it renews.
- Lost your code? Use Find my login code, or tap Restore purchases in the app. Still stuck? Contact support.
Other devices
NoTrail VPN starts on iPhone. Other platforms are planned but are not available yet, so please don’t rely on them until we announce them. If you bought a plan in the app, your backup login code lets you log in on another device once an app for that device exists.
